Can you tell I'm in a bit of a blog rut? Not a rut, per se - I have plenty to talk about - its just that it's all the same old thing that I've been talking about for weeks now. So enjoy my Tuesday Toot whilst I dream up more stories to share with you.
Okay, the deal with Tuesday Toot is, you have to toot your own horn. Which is kind of hard for me because, admittedly, I toot my own horn all.the.time.
So. What I did was something crazy scary to a person like me.
I looked at my credit report.
And it turns out, my credit is totally in the shit. But that's okay, because it's not that much money, and I can have it all paid off in just a few months if I tweak the budget. My credit rating is below 600, which apparently is a bad thing, but it's okay, because I did another crazy scary thing.
I talked to a mortgage company.
And the mortgage guy said that they could lend us money for our first house if we get the rating above 620. He said that since we already have a bunch of things reflecting positively, paying off the negatives should increase the rating exponentially. Which means that we can BUY A HOUSE!!
See, right now we live in my Aunt's house. She got transferred to Indiana a few years ago, but wanted to retire back here in Michigan, so she didn't want to sell her house. So she lets us rent it, but its better than a regular rental because we get all our land and no rules. We treat it like its our own home, and we would buy it from my aunt, except it's only two bedrooms, and we have a whole houseful of kids.
I ordered copies of our credit reports (since I didn't want to waste all my ink printing them out) and once they get here, I am going to make a list of all the things we owe and just start busting them out so by this time next year, we can buy a house. I've already started looking, but the bummer is, the only houses around here are in developments, which I absolutely loathe. I hate when developers bulldoze a farm and then build houses on it, and then name it after the farm they bulldozed. Or if it isn't a farm, it's some natural land feature that's gone forever because of the houses, like "Sparrow Ridge" on what looks like a golf course or whatever.
But we want to stay close by, because we happen to be in the best public school district on this side of the state (it's in the top five of the entire state) and not only that but I think its really irresponsible to switch kids' schools if you don't absolutely have to.
So... yeah. That's my toot. I started what will become a huge undertaking.... its a little scary, but it will be totally cool in the end.
You're just emotional!

Well Toot Toot for you! That's a pretty cool thing to take on. Good Luck with it.
Owning a home is awesome, trying to sell it....not so awesome.
S'funny cause I'm just going over our budget today and working it all out. Hope you gets get your dream home. It's tough buying with kids and schooling in mind. We so desperately want our house to sell so we can start E in the new school in Sept. I don't want to move mid year. She's just started k so I'm not too worried about her having to switch schools. Better now than later. :)
Yay! Here's to happy almost house hunting! ;-)
TOOT!!! Great to hear that your credit report is looking good and that you will be able to afford a house.
